Sidiailles, our local swimming lake with sandy beach and cafe.

Several local swimming lakes within 20-30 minutes drive: beaches, clrean safe swimming, play areas and cafés.

Les Pierres Jaumatres: A lovely place to take the children for a fun time clambering on giant boulders. There is a café/restaurant at the foot of this hill that has a tree-top adventure park. This is close to the chateau and market town of Boussac and about 35 minutes drive from the house.

Our local AOC wine region is Châteaumeillant. La Loge Sagrolle is on the edge of this small wine region. There is a wine route that can be followed with a variety of producers offering tastings.

The local area around La Loge Sagrolle

There are so many places to visit, things to see and do, it's not possible to mention them all. However, on these pages we show you our favourites - but will leave you to discover more places when you get here. We have a house-book full of ideas for days out, with maps and leaflets.

Activities for children and adults: Our closest lake is Sidiailles at around 15 to 18 minutes drive. Not only does it have a beach and swimming, café, pedaloes, kayaks....they have a fantastic tree-top adventure parkwith zip wires across the lake. There are tree-top adventures for children and adults....there is one for 3 to 5 year olds, one for 6, years, one for 7 years and one for 8 years +. There are slip-wires into and acroos the lake and all sorts of other fun activities. http://www.brancheaventure.fr/

Chateaux and gardens: There is a wide variety of chateaux and gardens to choose from within easy driving distance. Our favourites are Sarzay, Drulon and Orsan. There is also the home of George Sand at Nohant (famous local authoress and Chopin's lover for 10 years); Boussac chateau where the famous tapestries "Lady with Unicorn" were discovered in 1841; Tour de Bridiers near la Souterraine; and the exceptional gardens of "le parc floral" at Apremont on the edge of the river Allier.

Swimming and Fishing Lakes:  Click here for more details.

Market towns: La Châtre (saturday market), Chateaumeillant (Friday), Boussac (Thursday), Ste Sévère (Wednesday)

Historic Towns and Villages: La Châtre, Boussac, Ste Sévère are all close by. Further afield (about 1 hour) is Hérrisson which is worth the drive. It has a ruined castle and delightful olde-worlde streets set in the bend of the river Aumance. Vichy is 2 hours, but makes a lovely day trip where you can "take the waters". Montluçon is about 50 mins and has an historic medieval old town, with some good restaurants.

Vineyards: Châteaumeillant (AOC). It is a small wine growing area made up of a co-operative. We are very close to the wine route that takes you on a trail of the vineyards. There are several producers that offer wine tasting and there is a co-operative "cave" at Châteaumeillant. If you want to go further afield, as a day trip you can visit the famous wine regions of Sancerre, Tourraine, Valencay, Pouilly Fumé, St Pourçain and more!
